You’re probably reading this because you have a Boss in your life and you need some Christmas gift ideas. Or you are a boss looking to treat yoself. I salute you.
If you’re like me, you loathe the Christmas rush, where you find yourself:
- Stalking people in your car as they walk back to their parking spots,
- Getting all sweaty and bothered as you rush from one shop to another,
- Fighting with your fellow man or woman for the last (insert-prized-gift-here) in stock,
- Getting “All I want for Christmas” stuck in your head for ALL OF ETERNITY.
So here’s my list of 9 Boss-approved Christmas gift ideas for that special person in your life.
1. Rain Design Laptop Stand
I received one of these bad boys as a gift recently and I heart it! The Rain Design Laptop Stand is slick, sturdy and sexy. Paired up with your Apple Magic Keyboard and Apple Magic Mouse, it makes for an ergonomically sound workstation that any boss lady or boss man would love.
2. Grit by Angela Duckworth
Grit by Angela Duckworth is probably the book I’ve recommended and gifted to people most this year. Duckworth is a researcher and an excellent story teller too. She provides a compelling argument for “Grit” being the most reliable indicator of a person’s ability to succeed. “Genius” and talent are great to have, but the ability to stick at something with passion and perseverance is more important when it comes to achieving great things.
3. Sonos Play:1
I love this little Sonos Wireless speaker. The simple, compact design means it can fit discreetly in any space in the home/office and fill the room with sweet tunes and good vibes.
4. Anker Battery Case
I chew through my iPhone battery like a fiend. This Ultra Slim Anker battery case is a great back up and it’s actually quite nice to look at too.
5. Mastery by Robert Greene
I read Mastery by Robert Greene a couple of months ago and felt equal parts stimulated, frustrated, challenged and glad for having read it. This book uses examples of great thinkers, innovators and creators throughout history to highlight qualities that lead to mastery. On the one hand, Greene is a great writer so this is an enjoyable read. On the other hand, he is prone to make broad brush statements with no rigorous research to back them. I also flat out disagree with some of his sentiments. All in all, however, I think it’s a worthwhile read for anyone driven to continuous learning and improvement in performance – as long as you’re reading other research and books as well!
6. Leafy indoor plants
Big leafy plants, cacti or succulents bring life to any home office and these make a beautiful gift for your beloved boss. Look for plants that are hardy and not easily killed if accidentally forgotten about for a few weeks… it’s known to happen.
7. Sit-to-Strand Monitor Riser
I’m not exaggerating when I say that I dream about standing desk set ups. Anyone who works at a desk knows it’s better for your health, your back and all the cool kids are doing it. A Lorell Sit-to-Stand monitor riser gives you the option of adjusting your set-up to suit your needs and preference.
8. The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up by Maria Kondo
The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up by Maria Kondo is an institution. Watch interviews with Kondo on Youtube and you’ll be obsessing over doing your “once in a lifetime” declutter for weeks. If you have a boss in your life who is working toward simplifying their life or decluttering, this is a great Christmas gift idea!
9. 3D Stacking Ring
It’s awesome to buy local, especially at Christmas time! How beautiful is this simple, timeless piece of jewellery, designed and hand crafted by local boss lady, Jana? The concept behind Jana’s 100 of One Jewellery brand is to make only 100 of each design, making each piece extra special.
